Getting kids to the pool during school!
Providing Water Safety education and training to children in Shasta County during school hours.
Providing Water Safety education and training to children in Shasta County during school hours.
Drowning is the leading cause of accidental injury-related death for children ages 1-4 in California. For children ages 5-14, drowning is the second leading cause of accidental death. The majority of these drownings occur in backyard pools and open water sites. In Shasta County we are surrounded by creeks, lakes, rivers and pools. It is a wonderful place to live but also presents numerous opportunities for water related accidents. Water Safe Shasta is committed to partnering with Shasta County schools to provide water safety education and swim lessons to children during school hours.
We provide significantly reduced priced swim lessons and partner with elementary schools to help provide the time and transportation during the school day for the kids to take the lessons. More than half of the children we see have either never had swim lessons before or do not know how to swim. By partnering with schools, we can help reduce the main barriers that families have for getting their children to lessons; the cost of swim lessons, transportation to the lessons, and time away from their busy schedules.
Our ultimate goal is to be able to offer this program to schools at no cost. Until then, it is imperative to be able to keep the cost low, but with continually rising costs of labor and resources, we are needing to either raise our prices, or find other ways of helping fund this important project. This is where we could use your help. We are asking for your support to help off set the cost for this important program. We have a few different sponsorship options available, they are listed below.
With help from organizations such as First 5 Shasta (Week of the young child event pictured here!) we can reach more children in Shasta County.
